Spring Fishing Fun

Image
Its that time of year. The snow is melting and the ice is disappearing on the larger bodies of water here in Utah and you know what that means...fish are hungry! The spring time is my favorite time of the year. Its that time when I can wipe the dust off of my fly pole and clean up my waders so I can get back out on the waters to catch some amazing fish. This last weekend I traveled to Kolob Reservoir in Southern Utah to where all of the big fish come out to play. I was joined by my 4 college roommates as we prepared for an eventful day of fishing. The fun thing about Kolob this time of year is only artificial flies are allowed as bait for fishing so we are usually the only ones out on the lake because fly fishing is usually not as popular as other fishing techniques. As we arrived at the lake, we were quite disappointed because of the low water level. We hadn't heard of the repairs that the lake was undergoing before the winter hit so we were pretty upset when we saw that it wa

Taking It Back to My Families Roots

Native Americans used to hunt down animals and gather food and resources everyday in order for their tribes to stay alive. Hunting animals wasn't something that they just did for fun. The animals that they harvested would provide food for families for several days and would make sure that people were healthy enough to continue on their everyday adventures. Today, the tradition is carried on by our generation so that we can get a healthy source of meat while also controlling the herd sizes of the animals. With me being a 1/4 Native American, I love carrying on the tradition of my ancestors and I will continue to do it for as long as I live. The Process There are strict rules when it comes to hunting specific animals. Each country, state, or city has its own guidelines that you must follow because it is a privilege that we get to harvest such great animals for the better. Here in Utah, I hunt Mule Deer and Elk. The time period to hunt those animals is in the Fall and that is beca

Private Pond Fishing

July 6th, 2017 I was invited by a friend of mine that I made here at Southern Utah University to go fish at his families pond up on Cedar Mountain with a couple more of our friends. I had just gotten home from my weekend fishing trip at Boulder Mountain and I was still in the fishing mood so I had to accept his invite. It was a Thursday afternoon and I hurried home after work and grabbed my fishing gear and headed to his house so we could leave. Lucky for us, his families pond is only like and hour away from Cedar City so we had plenty of time to fish the evening up there. When we arrived we noticed that my friends uncle left his two paddle boats up there so we split up into teams of two and had a little fishing tournament. On my boat was my friends brother Jackson and myself. On the other boat were my two friends Mitch and Ty. I lucked out because Jackson is the ultimate fisherman and knew exactly where the fish were going to be so we knew right away we were going to win. Afte
