Mother Nature's Detour

This trip was definitely an interesting trip and some things happened that I can check off as a first. A friend of mine called and told me that he was going up the canyon for a quick fishing trip and that I should join him. Obviously I had to say yes.

I was a pretty overcast day in the city that we live in but just up the mountain you could tell it had been raining pretty heavily. We decided to head up the mountain anyways because fish are always hungry and plus, what could a little rain do? We packed up our gear and loaded some extra rain clothes so we could keep fishing and stay dry.

As we were driving up the canyon we noticed a bunch of cars were parked along the side of the highway and everyone was heading over towards a bridge that crossed a little stream that runs through the canyon. We were curious of what was going on so we decided to stop and see what was up. When we got to the bridge area where everyone was gathered, we could hear some talking about a flash flood that was on its way down the mountain and was pretty massive. I was a little upset because that means that the place where we were headed was probably getting hammered in rain but I was also excited because I had never witnessed a flash flood hit before. So we waited and waited and all of a sudden, we heard crashing just upstream and you could see trees in the distance, that bordered the stream, start to bend and next thing we knew, it was here.

What an awesome experience that was to witness such a powerful thing happen right in front of our eyes. After watching the flood for a little, we decided that we would be better off if we headed away from the storm and went to another fishing location.

Where our next destination was located was at a smaller reservoir that was far away from the storm but the downside about driving to this location was that we lost a lot of daylight so we had to hurry up and get our poles in the water so we could get some fish in before the light disappeared on us.

It was only a couple hours of fishing and we both caught a few fish so it was definitely worth the drive and neither of us got skunked. The fish in this reservoir had such an awesome look to them with their bright colors standing out.

Even though we didn't get to fish where we had planned, we were still successful and enjoyed the time we had together and we appreciated the opportunity that we were given to catch such an awesome native to Utah.
